GETTING THERE
DALAMAN AIRPORT
Dalaman is the closest airport to Kalkan at approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes' drive. You can also fly into Antalya Airport, but the journey to Kalkan is longer at around 3 hours. Dalaman airport, otherwise known as "Mugla Airport", is located 5km south of Dalaman on the south west coast of Turkey.

ISTANBUL AIRPORT
There are two international airports in Istanbul - Sabiha Gökçen International Airport on the Asian side of the city and Istabul Airport which is located on European side of the city.
Istanbul Airport was brand new in 2018 and is the largest airport in the world. It is 24 miles (40km) from the city centre which is about an hours drive. The airport currently has just one terminal which is used for departures and arrivals but they are hoping to open a smaller terminal in 2025. For departures the terminal can be accessed via different doors; Doors 1 and 2 are for domestic flights and 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are for international flights. There are lots of facilities at the airport, these include 279 Duty free shops, a range of cafes/restaurants/bars, free Wi-Fi for up to an hour, banks, ATMs, children's play area, two pharmacy's and a prayer room.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport is 22 miles (35 km) southeast of central Istanbul - around a 50 minute drive - and has one terminal for both international and domestic flights. The facilities at the airport include cafés/restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King and Starbucks, as well as a number of duty free shops, ATMs, currency exchange facilities, airport lounges, a post office and a hairdresser.

Kalkan town is a short taxi journey from the house. The Boat House has always been a very private property, so not all taxi drivers will be familiar with it. Explain to drivers that the house is in Kalamar Bay and is located in front of The Glass House.

DRIVING

Traffic is on the right hand side, with a 50km/h (30mph) limit in urban areas and 90km/h (56 mph) on main roads. Speed checkpoints are common and drivers may be fined on the spot (approx £25).

On roundabouts, traffic gives way to the right - you may be expected to stop half way round.

If a vehicle intends to turn left, it may indicate left but then pull over on the right to allow traffic to pass before turning.

If an oncoming vehicle flashes you, it means it intends to keep moving, therefore you should stop (opposite to the UK).

If you pass stones on the road, it may mean there is an accident ahead.

If you have an accident, call the police (112). Without a police report the insurance will be void. You should also contact the hire car company with a photo of the vehicle.

The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.5%.

You need to carry your passport and driving license with you, together with the vehicle's documentation (usually in the glove compartment).
