PATARA RUINS

Founded by the Lycians, Patara became an important city in the Roman Empire. It's surviving buldings, including temples and a monumental triumphal arch, are fascinating to explore.

Much of the city of Patara remains buried in sand, which has helped to preserve many of the ruins. Of particular interest are the Amphitheatre, Necropolis and the monumental gate or Arch of Triumph.

LETOON

The site is located south of the village of Kumluova approximately 4kms from Xanthos and contains many ancient ruins.

This city is one of the most important religious focal pints in Lycia. It is a sanctuary dedicated to Leto. The name Leto, the mother of Artemis and Apollo, first appears as 'Lada' in the clay tablets written in Luvi language which dated back to the 2nd century BC. We also encounter the name 'Apollonius' in these tablets which are interpreted as the origin of Apollo, the God of light. That is why Lykia is called the 'country of light' throughout the centuries. There are also the temples of Apollo and Artemis beside the sanctuary of Letoon.

XANTHOS

Ancient Lycian city of Xanthos Turkey, just a 30 minute drive from Kalkan. The foundation of the temple of Artemis, the Byzantine Chruch, Roman Theatre, Acropolis, Byzantine Bascilica and monastery are among the attractions well worth visiting.
